Meditation
“the capability of seeing
Rowan Williams
Meditation is the practise of taking time to think about something in a deeper way or for longer than normal. If we meditate on the ‘right’ things, it can make us feel more peaceful, calm and energised.
Some forms of meditation encourage a complete emptying of the mind, where other forms encourage a filling of the mind with specific thoughts. At Space to Breathe, we use the second of these forms.
Our resources here provide a number of different meditations for you to try out as well as some ideas for creating your own meditations.
Meditation and mindfulness are similar, but not the same. Mindfulness invites us to pay attention to ‘just one thing’ where meditation might encourage to take our thoughts in a particular direction. The aim is to deepen and expand our thoughts and ideas around a theme or concept. Filling our mind with a positive theme or concept can help us to experience that quality more. It can be a boost and catalyst to our day or week and continue to have a positive affect beyond the practise itself.
As you try out the resources, reflect on whether there are particular styles of meditations that work better for you than others.
